Orchid taxonomist Francisco Miranda shared with us his knowledge about growing orchids of the Brazil. Francisco Miranda was born in Rio de Janeiro and grew up in Brazil. He has a bachelor’s degree in Biology, a Master’s degree in Botany and twenty-five years of experience growing and breeding Brazilian orchids. He has written many papers and two books. Since 2001, He has been a qualified Taxonomic Authority for the American Orchid Society specializing in the determination of Brazilian species. He owns a nursery Miranda Orchids

He shared wonderful tales of viewing orchids in the the Amazon basin, an often times dangerous vocation.  He explained the different climate conditions in the various habitats of the Amazon basin and translated this information for the orchid hobbiest who is trying to grow Brazilian species.  It was a wonderful afternoon.
