Orchid Odyssey

Arrangements

Entries are to represent the show theme, Orchid Odyssey. The definition of odyssey according to Webster’s New Third World Dictionary is “an extended wandering or journey”. Entries can depict any portion of this journey.

All arrangements must feature the orchid, through size, placement, and/or design. All arrangements must be the original work of the exhibitor both in design and construction. Each entry should include (on a 3 x 5 card) a brief description of how the display fits the theme.

Category 101: A TRADITIONAL ARRANGEMENT (either mass or linear). This arrangement will utilize the basic principles of balance, proportion, harmony and color.

Category 102: A CONTEMPORARY OR MODERN ARRANGEMENT. This arrangement also known as freestyle, will not follow the traditional style but will use imagination and creativity to devise new approaches to the selection and organization of plant materials and other components.

Category 103: AN ASIAN ARRANGEMENT. This arrangement will utilize the elements of Asian design. This category could include, Japanese (Ikebana), Chinese or Korean designs.

Category 104: A MINIATURE ARRANGEMENT. This arrangement will not exceed 6 inches in width, height, or depth. The design may be of any style, but reduced in size.

Category 105: A CORSAGE. A flower arrangement designed to be worn: on the wrist, in the hair or pinned to the waist or shoulder.

Appropriate scale should be considered in this design.

Category 106: A NATURAL DISPLAY. A live orchid plant or plants*,

shown in an appropriate native setting or habitat. There should be no man-made materials visible except for those needed to provide support. Support elements will not be included in the judging.

*Hybrid orchids are allowed but should be shown in a setting appropriate for their respective species.
